Estate Agent SIC Codes Against Redress Schemes
GOV.UK says you must join a redress scheme if you are an estate agent dealing with residential property in the UK. The approved schemes are The Property Ombudsman and the Property Redress Scheme. A company that lists 68310 may do something quite different, while scheme membership suggests it does this work. The trade body Propertymark is another useful check.
Estate Agent SIC Codes Under SIC 2026
The Office for National Statistics finalised UK SIC 2026 in April 2026. 68.31 can stay, or move to 68.32 for other real estate activities on a fee or contract basis. 68.31 itself is renamed around intermediation, so check how a data supplier applies it. Where Estate Agent SIC Codes Fall Short
- Sales or lettings. The code does not separate them, and many firms do both.
- Branches. One company can have many branches, each with a local buyer or none.
- Commercial agents. They share the code but are a very different market.

- Choose residential or commercial. Then sales, lettings or both.
- Decide on branches or head offices. Chains may buy centrally.
- Check scheme membership. Use it to test your list.
- Test a sample. Check 50 records by hand.
