Do not add the counts together, because a company can list up to four codes.

Insurance SIC Codes Against the FCA Register
The FCA says nearly all financial services activities in the UK must be authorised or registered, and its Financial Services Register lists them. So it can show whether a firm has permissions for insurance work, whatever code it chose. It also shows trading names and appointed representatives, which a company search will not. Use the register as your check once you have a list.
Insurance SIC Codes Under SIC 2026
The Office for National Statistics finalised UK SIC 2026 in April 2026. These codes keep their numbers, including 66.22 for agents and brokers, so saved filters should carry over. You can read more in our UK SIC 2026 research.
Where Insurance SIC Codes Fall Short
- Appointed representatives. A firm may sell insurance under another firm’s authorisation.
- Lots of very different products. A code will not show if a broker sells commercial, personal or specialist cover.
- Groups. Large insurers often have many companies, and only some deal with suppliers.
